Setting Up Happ Proxy Mode

Unlike a full VPN, Happ's Proxy mode only routes traffic from apps you specifically choose, leaving the rest of the system untouched. Desktop users also get a dedicated utility that makes binding apps to the proxy much easier. Here's the full process.

Before You Begin

To switch to Proxy mode you'll need an active key or subscription link from the Happ service Telegram bot, along with the app already installed. If you haven't installed Happ yet, grab the version for your system at /en/setup/ and add the key the same way you would for a standard connection.

Enabling Proxy Mode Inside the App

Here's the sequence:

  • Launch Happ and make sure your key is added and the connection is active.
  • Find the mode switch in settings and select Proxy instead of VPN.
  • The app spins up a local proxy powered by Xray-core and displays the address and port to connect to.
  • Open any IP-checking site — the address shown should switch to the server's, confirming the proxy is live.

For a closer look at how proxy mode differs from a VPN, see /en/proxy/.

Happ Proxy Utility: A Dedicated Desktop Tool

Windows, macOS, and Linux users can install the Happ Proxy Utility, which handles the busywork — toggling the proxy on and off in one click and binding specific apps to it without typing the address and port into every program's settings. Download it and find setup instructions at /en/proxy-utility/.

Routing One App Through the Proxy

Once Proxy mode is on in Happ, take the local proxy's address and port shown on screen and enter them into the network settings of the app or browser you want to route — or let the Happ Proxy Utility handle it automatically if it supports app binding. The rest of the device's traffic keeps flowing directly to the internet, bypassing the server.

Troubleshooting a Proxy That Won't Connect

The usual suspects are an expired key or an app that ignores the system proxy and relies on its own network settings. Start by checking the key's validity in the Telegram bot, then review the specific app's settings. Still stuck? Head to /en/support/not-working/.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a separate key for proxy mode?

No — the same key or subscription link works for both Proxy mode and a regular VPN connection in Happ.

What does the Happ Proxy Utility actually do?

It removes the manual work on desktop: it toggles the proxy on and off and binds specific apps to it without you entering the address and port by hand.

Can VPN and Proxy run at the same time?

No, they're switchable modes in the app — only one is active at once — but you can flip between them whenever you like.

An app can't find the proxy — what should I check?

Confirm the app's network settings match the address and port Happ is showing, and that your key is still active.
