Happ Plus Proxy Mode: What It Is and When to Use It

How VPN mode works

In VPN mode, the app creates a virtual network interface and routes all device traffic through it — browser, system services, every program at once. It's the simplest, most predictable connection method: nothing needs separate configuration, and everything works as soon as the key is added.

What makes Proxy mode different

In Proxy mode, Happ runs a local proxy server based on Xray-core, and only the apps or browser set up to use that proxy send their traffic through it. This is handy when you want to redirect specific programs rather than the whole device, without setting up a system-wide VPN tunnel.

What the proxy mode is built on

Both modes available with a Happ Plus subscription — VPN and Proxy — run on Xray-core and share the same key from the Telegram bot. There's no separate encryption protocol to configure; the difference is purely in how traffic enters the tunnel. Full details are on /en/proxy/.

When proxy beats VPN

Happ Proxy mode is worth using when:

• you only want to route a browser or one specific app through the server;
• a system-wide VPN conflicts with other software or network settings;
• you need finer control over which traffic goes through the server and which stays direct.

Turning Proxy on

Proxy mode is switched on directly in the Happ app's settings on the platform you're using, and desktop users also get a dedicated Happ Proxy Utility that simplifies integrating it with other software. The general connection walkthrough is on /en/setup/.
